Check Up Exams for Every Age: What to Check and When!

Prevention is the foundation for a life full of health and well-being! A regular medical check-up can detect any health problems at an early stage, before they develop into more serious conditions. Depending on your age, the necessary tests and preventive actions differ, ensuring that you receive the best care exactly when you need it. Discover which tests are important for your age and book your next appointment to stay healthy!

For the 14-20 year old age group, the following are recommended:

  • Weight, height and Body Mass Index (BMI) check: Annually

  • Blood pressure measurement: Every 2 years or more often if there are increased risk factors

  • Lipid profile check (cholesterol and triglycerides): Once in adolescence, repeated if risk factors are present

  • Start of gynecological follow-up if sexual activity has begun: Annually

  • Menstrual and secondary sex characteristics check: Annually as part of a pediatric/endocrinological checkup

  • Vaccine completeness check: According to the National Vaccination Program

  • Regular vision and hearing check-up: Every 2-3 years, annually if there is a problem

  • Dental checkup: Every 6 months

  • Personalized screening based on individual and family history: As appropriate, following medical assessment

Additional advice:
At this age, it is essential to build a relationship of trust with the doctor. Guidance on adolescent psychology, proper nutrition, physical activity, and a healthy sex life are just as important as the exams.

For people belonging to the Age Group 21-40 years old, the following are recommended:

  • Blood pressure check: Every 2 years, annually if elevated

  • Lipid profile check: Every 4-6 years, earlier if risk factors are present

  • Fasting blood sugar test: Every 3 years, or more often if there is a family history

  • STD screening: Annually or more often if there is a high risk

  • Thyroid check: Every 5 years or more often if there are symptoms

  • Liver/kidney function test: Every 3-5 years

  • Metabolic syndrome screening (glucose, lipids): Every 2-3 years

  • Fertility testing: As appropriate, based on the intention to have children

  • Gynecological examination (Pap test, ultrasound): Pap test every 3 years from the start of sexual activity

  • Urological examination (men): Annually, especially after 30 if there are symptoms

Extra tip:
Your 20s and 30s are the foundation of your future health. Avoiding smoking, eating a balanced diet, and managing stress are key to preventing chronic diseases.

In the Age Group 41-60 years, the following tests are recommended:

  • Blood pressure measurement: Annually

  • Fasting blood sugar and HbA1c test: Annually

  • Lipid profile: Every 1-2 years

  • Liver, kidney, thyroid function: Annually or every 2 years

  • Mammography (women): Every 1-2 years after age 40

  • PSA (men): Every 1-2 years after age 50 or earlier if there is a family history

  • Osteoporosis screening: From age 50 for women, for men based on risk

  • Menopause/hormone screening: As appropriate, in women with related symptoms

Additional advice:
Cancer prevention and chronic disease management are a priority. Physical exercise, avoiding alcohol/smoking, and mental balance are especially important at this stage of life.
